CS Miami Surprise!!

April 25, 2010

I’ve been worrying about Cherry, my 2005 Milksnake Phase Miami, ever since she laid a clutch of 24 slugs last season, unmated. She retained one of the slugs for a few weeks, and I don’t ever want to go through stress like that again. Fast forward to the present. Cherry shed back in February, and lately has been so hungry I can’t even handle her, even being fed weekly. I’m positive she’s ovulating. After consulting with respected breeder friends, I decided to go ahead and breed her. She’ll lay a clutch of gorgeous Miamis, het Motley.

Guess who the proud daddy snake is! That’s right, El Wray, Miami Motley. “Little” 2008 El Wray got busy immediately upon introduction and they hooked up in less than one minute! Go Little El Wray! Cherry was quite excited and helpful. Now that I’ve gone ahead and done it, I’m quite excited by this breeding!

The Mommy Club

April 24, 2010

With five successful matings each under their “belts,” first-time mothers Lavender Bloodred Lily and Bloodred Buzztail are relaxing and feeding and hopefully growing lots of nice, fertile eggs. I am waiting not-so-patiently for them to go blue, and shed, and lay. The suspense is killing me! Both girls are ravenously hungry and are putting on weight.
I’ve put them both on an exercise program to get them in even better shape before they lay. This consists of roughly 15 minute periods of exercise daily, when not digesting. Their exercise includes cornsnake treadmill, Maternity Walkies outside on the grass, and occasionally swimming in the Water Garden. Lily is energetic and more than cooperative. Buzztail is more interested in burrowing, but can be gently coerced into movement. Okay, ladies, hurry up and go blue already!

Yggdrasil: Lava Bloodred

April 12, 2010

Yggdrasil, my 2009 Captains Colubrids Lava Bloodred, just shed, so of course I took him out for a photo shoot! Yggdrasil was the perfect model! He goes so well with the Gerber Daisies. Yggsrasil is growing well. He’s on double pinks, nearly ready for peach fuzzies. He also refuses to use a hide, ever, preferring to spend his time, even while blue, curled up in his vines. Little does he know that his fiery lava red makes it impossible for him to blend in…

Another surprise is how tame and gentle he has become. This little snake made Ruby look mild in comparison, but actually has yet to strike at me now that he’s home! During his photo shoot, all Yggdrasil cared about was getting back to me! Don’t forget that if you’d like to see larger pics of this little sweetheart, all you have to do is click the images!

Pepper and Buzztail: Romantic Evening!!

April 7, 2010

Buzztail shed last night and Pepper found her irresistible tonight! I am very pleased because last year Pepper wanted nothing to do with the ladies. This year he got down to business so quickly I missed getting a picture of the actual event. Buzztail is Katie Haluska’s Bloodred female, ph anery, and Pepper is my Rich Hume bred Avalanche Stripe male. Babies from this pair promise to be gorgeous red jewels. I can’t wait!!

Pepper says “I love you!!”

HAPPY EASTER FROM SNICKERSNAKES!!

April 4, 2010

Here’s an Easter photograph of Miss Mingo, 2009 Serpenco Opal Stripe! The weather here in Florida is perfect; 80 degree days, 50 degree nights. The azaleas have started blooming, the mulberry tree is budding and salvias are sprouting up all over. Fred and Lily have bred three times now- they are a very happy couple. Buzztail is in deep blue and should shed this week. Pepper shed last week and should be good to go for his date with Buzztail. Happy Easter everyone!!
