Look Who I Found!
March 11, 2010
It’s Mr. Frog! I don’t know where this big frog came from, but he’s lived out at Terra Pen for a year. I have so much clean-up to do out there it’s not even funny. The grasses have gotten so huge they have taken over the entire enclosure and the St. Bernard’s Lily has crowded out about a quarter of the strawberry garden.
I spent some time pulling the water lilies out of the bottom of the water garden so they could warm up and get some sun. The Sarassa Comets were happy to “help!” Unfortunately, the lilies have lost all their tags, so I can’t tell who is who until they send up some leaves! It looks like they all survived the winter, although I am not quite sure about Mrs. George yet. I’m hopeful, though, that she made it!
The Dingo: Pretty In Pink!
March 11, 2010
Let’s see, which lucky snake will go out this afternoon for a photo shoot with the blossoming Japanese Magnolia? I vote for The Dingo! It’s extremely difficult to get a pretty picture of Opal Bloodred Dingo, but it looks like pink is his color! The Japanese Magnolia is the very first tree to bloom here this spring, but others will follow soon.
The Dingo is one of the most beautiful snakes in my collection, but it is very difficult to capture his delicate coloring. I think these are his best pics ever! Only a few more days till the Forest Pansey Redbud blooms- I can’t wait! There is just nothing better than pink flowers and pink snakes. (Click on the pics for a larger view).
There’s A New Girl In town!
March 1, 2010
And her name is Buzztail! I am so fortunate that Katie Haluska was able to send me this beautiful Bloodred girl on a last-minute breeding loan. I love this snake; she is one of the most gorgeous deep, dark Bloodreds I have ever seen. And she has a sweet, calm personality.
Buzztail is fresh out of brumation so I will begin feeding her and wait for her post-brumation shed. Katie doesn’t know much about Buzztail’s history; she was purchased at a show, found mixed in with a group of Granites of the same age. We’re both hoping those Granites were siblings! A Granite het Fire Stripe female hatchling would put my Avalanche Stripe project back on track, albeit several years delayed. If nothing else, we’ll have a clutch of stunning Bloodreds het Amel, Anery and Stripe.
